Memphis police are investigating after a man was shot early Monday morning outside Pure Passion strip club.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. outside the club at 1849 E. Brooks Road.
When officers arrived they found the 25-year-old victim lying on his back in the northbound lane of traffic on Cazassa, about 200 yards from Brooks Road.
The victim told police he was attacked in the parking lot as he left the club to get something out of his car. He said that he was approached from behind and hit multiple times and knocked to the ground.
The man said he got up and ran and that's when he was shot once and robbed of his cash by the suspect. Police said the man was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
The suspect left the scene in a silver sedan, police said. This is one of several shootings at the club in recent years.
Last November, the Shelby County District Attorney's office temporarily closed the club for a month after several shootings. The club reopened in December after owners agreed to improve security measures after the violence, which included a 2014 shooting where four people were shot outside the club. All survived.
In 2012, Chico Carver, 23, was shot in the parking lot and later died from his injuries.
In 2008, the club was briefly shut down as a nuisance.
